Confidence in an Uncertain World
No matter what today brings, you're anchored in God. Don't "throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!" Hebrews 10:35 NLT. We know that the only thing that never changes is that everything changes! This works to our advantage if we know how to use God's wisdom in change.

The world around us is in constant flux - we live in a dynamic environment in which change happens continuously. And, in our time, change is happening more rapidly, more turbulently and affecting more people. We’re living in what’s called a VUCA environment. VUCA is an acronym that stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. It’s a military term that describes modern warfare conditions that emerged in the 1990s and how to engage such situations successfully. The modern business world recognised VUCA issues at work and adopted the acronym and coping methods. Logically, the factors that affect business affect your professional life, your career and your tactics.
What’s VUCA like? Consider how a little virus can infect a few people, become an epidemic, then a pandemic that turns the world upside down, and you have the concept of VUCA. Sound alarming? Here’s good news - with God and wisdom, VUCA conditions will work out for your good: “… we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…” Romans 8:28a.
Our opening scripture is advice given to Christians in the Roman Empire. They were being persecuted for their faith, and everything they owned was being confiscated. A VUCA environment indeed. The advice given to them? Maintain confident trust in God – it brings great reward. In the book of Proverbs, this principle is given as a key to success: Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognise, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition.
We see this in practice in the life of Jacob. He worked for Laban, a greedy, conniving cheat. Jacob prospered no matter what adverse conditions were set. If Laban said, “The speckled sheep shall be your wages,” then all the flocks bore speckled. And if he said, “The streaked shall be your wages,” then all the flocks bore streaked. Jacob tells Laban, “I served you for six years for your flock, and you changed my wages ten times.” He observes, “Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed.” And the outcome? Jacob left as a wealthy man with a huge flock. See Genesis 31. No matter what your day may bring, maintain your trust in God, follow His advice, and you will ultimately prosper and have success.
“Loving Creator, You have my best interests at heart. I will trust You in all circumstances, no matter how challenging they are, and I will listen for Your leading and counsel.”
