In a sense, we all have natural faith – it’s how we were created. This is the general faith we have, for example, that the chair we sit on will hold our weight. It’s purely sense-based. In contrast, faith in God is spirit-based and transforms you and your life. Let’s examine it.
At its most basic, faith is simply trusting God to be what He says He is and do what He says He will do. This is your launching point as you embark on your exciting journey of faith. It’s your first step in a lifelong growth in faith. As you utilise this incredible gift of God and learn to live in and through faith, you discover that there are levels of faith you can aspire to and attain that help you live an amazing life.
We can’t be saved without God releasing to us a deposit of faith, Ephesians 2:8&9. God knows we cannot create faith, only increase it, so He’s given us a measure of faith, a deposit, if you will, to start us off on this journey. We exercise this faith to increase it.
Growing Faith. Once the Holy Spirit has worked His power on your heart to soften and cleanse your spirit, this deposit of faith moves you from conviction of wrong, righteousness and judgment to redemption. See John 16:8-13.
Romans 4:13-14 & 16 “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect… Therefore, it is of faith, that it might be according to grace…”
Without God, we can’t understand creation, purpose, destiny or life. So, biblical faith isn’t blind faith. Biblical faith is intelligent faith rooted in the knowledge and relationship with an in-touch Redeemer.
But this faith can only fully be appropriated by those who come in faith, so that in Him through grace we may release the unique destiny, purpose and significance He purposed for us when He made us.
Faith honours God - God honours faith. Hebrews 11:1-3 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. … Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” The deposit of faith God placed in you must grow through you exercising your faith in every area of your life.
We use faith to do good.
We were created specifically for good works. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” The measure of faith is only a starting point. Beyond salvation, faith carries us into the fullness of what God has for each of us.
How we bless the Lord - use and increase His gifts to us.
Romans 12:3b & 6 “… God has dealt to each one a measure of faith… Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them; if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith…” We increase our faith through the use of the gifts, talents and destiny God placed in us.
We operate the gifts we’ve received in the measure of faith they were released to us, increasing them beyond the measure to maturity. The more faith I have, the more I please God. Ask yourself, “How do I use daily life to increase my faith, and how pleasing am I to God?” Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
What can I believe God for, with manifested results?

This year……….
Live by faith, not fear. Legitimate fear is a natural emotion from your sense of self-preservation. It’s good – it gives you an inward warning of actual danger.
But fear, when it becomes an overpowering, controlling force, is perverted faith and neutralises your faith in God.
Faith and fear are both matters of expectation – the difference between them lies only in the thing you expect.
Proverbs 4:23 reminds us that our heart, our innermost being, determines the way our life is shaped and the outcome of our days. Allow faith in God to fill your heart and how you live. Spend time with God and in the bible everyday. Mix with faith-filled Christians whose faith is evident in their lives.
Points to Ponder.
Circumstances don’t change destiny, so real faith in God isn’t moved by anything, but influences those things and forces them into conformity.
Faith is a natural part of obedience. We are commanded to increase our faith.
WRONG belief is UNBELIEF, not NON-BELIEF. Unbelievers believe, they’re just believing wrongly –away from God and His promises. Their belief, just like ours, has a harvest - isolation from God, sickness and death.
Faith produces - It takes the SAME ENERGY to BELIEVE RIGHTLY as it does to BELIEVE WRONGLY.
Which of these two governs your life is a matter of personal choice. FEAR AND FAITH BOTH FIND THEIR BEGINNING IN THE THING YOU CHOOSE TO ANTICIPATE:
Expect the worst, FEAR;
Expect the best, FAITH WILL FLOURISH.
Positive expectation in what God will do provides the impetus for faith to grow stronger and bolder as you fix your confidence in God’s promises and work toward their fulfilment.
Dealing with Fear.
Frame your fear. Instead of vague feelings, ask, “What am I afraid of?” BE SPECIFIC.
Name your fear. Know what you fear, and you’ll know how to conquer it. Fear thrives on deceit; apply truth to it.
Yield to the Holy Spirit. You surrendered to the One; you can’t be controlled by the other.
Don’t allow perverted faith. Beyond realistic fear, trust God to bring you through.
Fill up on the Word and the Presence of God. Focus on Hebrews 11:27: The invisible is made visible by faith.
