Your Quantum Shift

Peter had a quantum shift of faith: a dramatic, instant, intuitive shift. You can’t stay the same after it. You can have that same epiphany. Let’s explore how it happened to him and how to experience it in your life.

Like Peter, we need a quantum shift of faith. As we row to reach the place Jesus promised to meet us at, let’s watch for the chance to ask Him to call us for that detour on the waves. It will take us beyond anything we can ask or think is possible. It’s one thing to mentally acknowledge that God can make an iron axe head float, contrary to the laws of nature. It’s a total paradigm shift to realise God will do that in your life.

Peter’s shift of faith was beyond his natural, cultural training. As a Jewish child brought up in Israel, he was continually taught about humanity's encounters of faith with God. From early childhood, at home and at the local synagogue, he'd be educated in the traditions, the Law and the stirring retelling of the Deliverance from Egypt, David and Goliath, and Daniel in the lion’s den. He’d be familiar with accounts of a loving Creator’s hand in humanity’s affairs. This is why the Jewish writer to the Hebrews could recount numerous people of faith in chapter 11, expecting any Jewish reader to follow the train of thought. Every Jewish child knew about these encounters with God. They were passed from generation to generation much as we relate such stories to children in Sunday school. But stories can become obscure histories that may, if we’re not careful, be recounted as legend and even by the unbelieving as myth. We’ve all heard or even used phrases like ‘in Bible Times’ and ‘in the days Jesus walked in Israel’.

So, what exactly are ‘Bible Times’? The Bible is a collection of books in which we find amazing, real-life experiences of people. They’re people like you and me. These events happened because of their faith in God. Phrases like ‘Bible Times’ imply that all these experiences are separated from us in our material-technical world. But here’s news… we are living in Bible times, and we can be among those heroes of faith. It’s the same God.

So, back to the event that changed Peter’s life. Jesus sent his trainees across the sea by boat. He stayed behind to search His Father’s will for the next task. To reach His next assignment, He had to cross without a boat. He was walking on the water and passed the men who were struggling in the boat, expecting them to catch up to Him as He’d commanded.

And now, that moment…

Peter understood through the Holy Spirit that if Jesus spoke it, he could do it. “Jesus! Tell me to walk on water too!” was followed by “Come!” Now, anything God has spoken is possible, and so, Peter walked on water.

If Peter hadn’t asked Jesus, he would never have walked on water and would have missed that defining experience. He asked for the impossible, and Jesus said, “Come!”

Here’s food for thought - Nothing stopped any of the other disciples from making the same request! They were limited by… themselves. While those in the boat remained focused on striving against the wind and the waves,

Peter sought to meet Jesus in a whole new place.

A quantum shift in faith recognises that all things are possible once we have a word from God. Peter asked. He challenged the situation and boldly sought an invitation from Jesus to join Him in the place of the miraculous. With a simple ‘Come!’, Jesus had changed Peter forever. He’d walked on water. It prepared him. He’d walk in such faith that healings like the lame beggar instantly walking occurred continually. Acts 3:1-16. Peter believed the reality of God and, through one intuitive leap, made the quantum shift needed to, in time, be what Jesus saw in him.

Peter understood a vital truth - hear and obey the command exactly as spoken. Then he had to go against everything he knew about water and step out of the boat, keep his eyes fixed on Jesus and walk in the miraculous. Yes, Peter did then transfer his attention to the storming waves. His trust began to sink, and he started to sin,k and he got wet. Jesus was there and lifted him up. They would then have walked on the water to the boat.

So, was this experience a failure of Peter’s faith? He walked on water. It was the quantum shift in his faith to expect miracles and live in power - even his shadow became an expression of his service.

How to have your own quantum shift of faith.

A quantum shift in faith recognises that all things are possible once we have a word from God.

Seven things we can learn from Peter:

  • Peter spent much time close to Jesus. He saw the healings and miracles and learnt to pray for others by copying Jesus. Stay close to those who walk in faith and who build your faith.

  • While those in the boat remained focused on striving against the wind and the waves, Peter sought to meet Jesus in a whole new place.

  • Peter asked. He challenged the situation and boldly sought an invitation from Jesus to join Him in the place of the miraculous.

  • Peter understood a vital truth - hear and obey the command exactly as spoken.

  • Peter had to go against everything he knew about water and step out of the boat.

  • Peter had to keep his eyes fixed on Jesus and walk in the miraculous.

  • Yes, Peter looked at the waves and got wet. Jesus was there and lifted him up. They would then have walked on the water to the boat. Was this a failure of Peter’s faith? He walked on water. It was the quantum shift in his faith to expect miracles and live in power - even his shadow became an expression of his service.

Anything we ask of God that He says do is possible - no matter how unlikely. How?

It’s accomplished by the Holy Spirit’s personal involvement in our lives, empowering us. So, let’s set aside the limitations of what others do and what we think we can do and listen to the encouragement of the Holy Spirit.

Seeing opportunities and hearing God's call to step out of the boat can only happen if you, like Peter, spend much time close to Jesus. That happens in prayer and quiet time with God. We’ve personally experienced quantum shifts and witnessed the power of prayer in every aspect of our lives in healings, miracles, provision and abundance and share these true life happenings in my book, 'Prayer Power: tapping into heaven for your Miracles and Transformation.' We’ve seen storms calmed by a prayer and watched a nation transformed through a day of prayer. We share the 19 types of prayer in the bible with real-life modern stories on how to use each prayer to see the miraculous. It's packed with deep, biblical teaching and testimonies. Written for every Christian, it will change your prayer life and sensitise you to be able to say:

God, I’m listening for Your call to step out of the boat, trusting You.
